Once upon a time, it was easy to remember the histories of WWE's titles - after all, in the first 20 years of the belt's existence, the WWE Championship only changed hands seven times. As the amount of wrestling TV produced (as well as the emphasis on its importance) increased, though, storylines moved quicker, wrestlers got overexposed sooner, and title changes became more frequent. By the time the Attitude Era came to a close, there were enough titles that changed enough times that it no longer mattered, and fans certainly weren't able to keep track of all of the champions in the company's history. In recent years, the company has unified belts and let champions reign for longer, but there's so much history built up that only the most recollective of fans can say who the Spirit Squad beat for the WWE World Tag Team Titles, or how many times John Morrison was Intercontinental Champion.
