20 Superstars Who Only Had One Championship Reign In WWE
8. The Honky Tonk Man
In a shocking upset, The Honky Tonk Man captured the Intercontinental Championship on an episode of Superstars of Wrestling in 1988. What was meant to be a transitional stint in order to drop the belt to Jake "The Snake" Roberts turned into one of the longest singles championship reigns of all time in the WWF.
Honky kept the belt for well over a year - 454 days in total - before dropping the title to The Ultimate Warrior at the very first SummerSlam in 1988. He may have lost his title that night, but no one has been able to topple him as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. Following his loss to The Warrior, Honky tried in vain to regain his championship. His tag team with Greg Valentine then tried and failed to beat The Hart Foundation for the tag belts and he even had a match for the WWF title against Hulk Hogan on Saturday Night's Main Event in 1989.
Honky's last title match for the WWE took place in 2008, when he challenged Santino Marella for the Intercontinental Championship at Cyber Sunday. He won the match, but by DQ, keeping his WWE championship tally at just one.
