20 WCW Easter Eggs, References And In-Jokes You Never Noticed

1. Billionaire Ted Skits

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2c4mr_billionaire-ted-s-rasslin-warroom-1_sport It's January 1996 and it appears that literally every single major talent that the WWF made in the 1980s is now employed by WCW. Hogan and Savage are there, along with Earthquake, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Brutus Beefcake and loads more. The initial solution was to counter-program with a younger "New Generation" of wrestlers who moved with a faster pace in the ring, and if as physically large as Hogan, just appeared to look cooler and different. The "New Generation"was largely a failure (and we're still a few months away from Hall and Nash bailing ship to create the NWO in WCW), so what was Vince McMahon to do? Obviously, the best/worst answer is to air a group of skits directly insinuating that WCW's boss Ted Turner is a racist and sexist hayseed, as well as making Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage out to be infirm, out-of-touch, uncool and generally unimpressive in every way. It goes without saying that it didn't work, and ultimately left the WWF in a position where WCW - by not responding - came off like the progressive, timely, fun and culturally aware programming that it eventually ceased to become.
