15. Road Warrior Animal And Heidenreich
In the fall of 2005, there was no tag team in WWE hotter than MNM. Johnny Nitro, Joey Mercury and manager Melina had made the most of their opportunity to star on the main roster, wrestling outstanding matches with some of the most talented individuals on the SmackDown roster. With the advent of such a dominant heel team, the creative team understandably felt the need to book a babyface tandem that would ultimately dethrone them, much to the delight of the fans. Unfortunately, their idea for said team was to dust off Road Warrior Animal and pair the aging veteran with underwhelming and underachieving big man Heidenreich. Together, they were WWE's latest attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle, a poor man's Legion of Doom. Animal was motivated and clearly working as hard as he could at that point in his career but the audience did not buy the lame imitation of one of wrestling's greatest tag teams. After the duo inexplicably unseated MNM in July, they embarked on a 93-day title reign that was equal parts uninspiring and curious as they only really feuded with Mercury and Nitro. By the time October rolled around, the titles were switched back to the team that never should have lost them in the first place, much to the benefit of the product.
