Originally, Ric Flair showed up on federation screens as the "Real World's Champion" in late-1991. He was carrying around the old NWA Title before that got Vince McMahon in legal hot water. Pivoting, McMahon decided to put his main strap on Ric at the 1992 Royal Rumble. That happened just 12 matches into his WWF career.

The 'Nature Boy' was really, really, really new to hardcore fed fans.

A routine triumph vs. Jim Powers on the 29 September '91 episode of Wrestling Challenge introduced Ric to his new fanbase. Infrequent TV matches followed heading into the Rumble and immortality.
