20 WTF Moments In Stone Cold Steve Austin's WWE Career

5. Refereeing The Brock Lesnar Vs. Goldberg Match At WrestleMania XX

After seeing The Rock leave the wrestling business to get into movies, new talent was embraced, especially Brock Lesnar. He was young, hungry, and seemingly indestructible. At WrestleMania XX in 2004, he was also on his way out of the company. Worn down by the travel and injuries, Lesnar decided that he was going to pursue a career in professional football. Goldberg had finally migrated to WWE to help fill the gap left by the departing Rock, but he too wasn't sticking around for much longer. In short, both men could have truly cared less about the match, and it showed. Although situated in the middle of the card and luckily not the main event, Stone Cold was the unfortunate soul who had to officiate the match as the special guest referee. After an uncomfortably long standoff, Austin had to all but force the two behemoths to get the fight going. Fans could quickly sense Lesnar's and Goldberg's collective indifference and began shouting out every chant in the book, including "you sold out" and the dreaded "boring". Austin almost would have been the scapegoat had he not rescued the night by stunning both men after Lesnar won.
