1. The Case Of The Disappearing Briefcase In The Handicap Ladder Match With Shane and Vince McMahon At King Of The Ring 1999
As confusing as the higher power reveal was, there is one single moment in Austin's career that is more WTF-inducing and head-scratching than any other. It's one that people still ask about to this very day because it never had any real conclusion. While wrestling storylines are abandoned and forgotten all the time, this one still haunts fans. We just want closure. The stage was King of the Ring 1999. Stone Cold squared off in a handicap ladder match with Vince and Shane. All three men had on-screen ownership stakes in the company, and the bout would determine the true owner of WWE. The Corporate Ministry was barred from ringside. As Austin nearly got hold of the briefcase that contained a new ownership contract, someone raised it higher and higher, preventing him from winning. Who, you ask? Well, let's see. It couldn't have been a McMahon. It also couldn't have been a Corporate Ministry member since they were forced backstage (although fans speculate it was Big Boss Man). Despite the devious manner in which the McMahons won, the briefcase incident was never so much as mentioned on WWE TV ever again, and fans were always left wondering who dunnit.
