The sparkle was fading terribly on WCW by the time the 2000 edition of Bash At The Beach took place. Vince Russo would strike again with one of his 'worked shoot' angles, and the whole thing was badly put together. Flawed from the outset, Russo's big idea was to have Jeff Jarrett lay down for Hulk Hogan, allowing the latter to win the WCW World Title. From there, the writer would tear into Hogan during an in-ring promo, one he wanted fans to believe was real. Booker T vs. Jeff Jarrett for a different WCW World Title was then booked, and Booker emerged victorious. Fans were confused by what was going on, but most knew enough about WCW not to expect clear storytelling. The premise was that Hogan would return in the future, and go up against this 'new' champion with his 'old' belt. That's all well and good, but Hulk felt Russo crossed the line with his comments during his promo. Calling Hogan a 'big, bald son of a bitch', the writer angered the wrestler. Meanwhile, wrestling fans were rapidly losing interest in the company.
