There were mutterings of criticism over the way the Intercontinental Championship was literally tossed around in the build up to WrestleMania this year.
But it’s actually at Extreme Rules that the prestigious belt has been handed around almost at will. In three defences at the PPV, the title has changed hands every time. Chris Jericho won the strap in 2009, Cody Rhodes in 2011, and then Bad News Barrett last year.
The Englishman could have gone on to repeat the feat at this year’s show, but with the status of his title match with Daniel Bryan up in the air, he may have to wait until next year to extend this particular record.
