While attendances and buy-rates might be used to judge a PPV’s financial success, there’s a better measurement that we can use to assess its in-ring quality—Dave Meltzer’s acclaimed match rating system.

And while last year’s main event received a modest 3-and-a-half star rating, every other main event in the PPV’s history has achieved a 4 star rating or above. The best-rated Extreme Rules match of all time was the aforemtnioned 2012 headliner between Lesnar and Cena, which was awarded a lofty 4-and-a-half stars.
