20 WWE Retirements That Meant Absolutely Nothing

8. Jim Ross (2005)

Nobody likes firing Jim Ross more than Vince McMahon. He€™s done it on multiple occasions, both on camera as part of kayfabe and legitimately off-camera. It€™s a bully complex and it€™s ridiculous. The most egregious of JR€™s €œfirings€ happened in late 2005 when Ross had to take time off to deal with serious issues involving his colon. He was actually fired by Linda McMahon, who had inexplicably turned heel after feigning compassion for Ross. This led, of course, to Vince making light of Ross€™s colon problems during the infamous €œDr. Heiny€ sketch. Ross returned at Wrestlemania 22 with no fanfare. An honorable mention is in 2011 where John Laurinaitis just called JR to the ring and fired him, which JR completely no-sold.
