20 WWE Retirements That Meant Absolutely Nothing

7. Vince McMahon (1999)

It was billed as €œThe End of an Era.€ Steve Austin defended the WWF Championship against The Undertaker at Fully Loaded 1999. If Undertaker won, Austin would never wrestle for the WWF Championship again. If Austin won, Vince McMahon would never appear on television again. Austin won, and the announcers declared that this would be the last we€™d ever see of Vince McMahon. That proclamation held true for about six weeks, when Triple H (then the WWF Champion) threatened Linda McMahon, prompting Vince to appear and declare, €œI promised I€™d stay out of business, but this isn€™t business, this is personal.€ McMahon won the title that night, and was back on television full-time after that, rendering the Fully Loaded stipulation completely worthless.
