Mr. Perfect is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time never to win the WWE Championship. The reason for this is because of serious back injuries that derailed his momentum many times through his WWE career. The first time his back problems flared up was in the summer of 1991, after he dropped the IC Title to Bret Hart at Summerslam. After a stint as a color commentator and Ric Flairs executive consultant, he returned to the WWF as a face in the fall of 1992, substituting for The Ultimate Warrior teaming with Randy Savage at Survivor Series. Unfortunately, the back problems flared up again, and he was gone a year later. Perfect tried to make another return in 1994 at Wrestlemania X, where he cost Lex Luger (supposedly accidentally) his opportunity to win the WWF Championship from Yokozuna. However, the back problems flared up again, and Perfects wrestling return was scrapped. Perfect may have been retired for good, but he returned to wrestling full-time in WCW in 1997. He had one more WWF run in 2002 before his untimely death in 2003.
