20 WWE Retirements That Meant Absolutely Nothing

16. Vince McMahon (2011)

It seems that every summer, Vince McMahon €œkills himself off€ as a character. One year, Donald Trump buys the company from him. Another year, a stage falls on him. Yet another year, he gets jumped by the Nexus. In 2007, Vince literally killed himself off by having his character die in a limousine explosion. In 2011, the storyline du juor to get Vince off TV was the least interesting of all. It happened off-screen in a Board of Director€™s meeting where they believed Vince overstepped his bounds in his treatment of CM Punk and his desire to fire John Cena. Triple H came out and said that Vince was no longer running the day-to-day operations of the company. He made it seem real by breaking down and saying, €œI love you, pop.€ Like all of McMahon€™s €œretirements,€ he was back weeks later, removing Hunter from power and establishing John Laurainitis as Interim GM.
