The actual timeline of the 'Ruthless Aggression' Era can be difficult to ascertain. A lot of fans point to the moment in 2002 when Vince McMahon uttered the phrase during a promo as the starting point. Others prefer to think that the 'Ruthless Aggression' Era began shortly after WrestleMania X-8 in the Spring of '02. Whatever the case, it's generally accepted that the period started in 2002, and ended somewhere around the time WWE went 'PG' in the Summer of 2008. 2002-2008 was a bit of a unique period in WWE history. Stars such as The Rock and Steve Austin were either moving away from the company or winding down their careers. In addition, there was a renewed emphasis on pushing fresh names such as John Cena, Randy Orton and Batista to the top of the card. The likes of The Undertaker, Triple H and Shawn Michaels were still around, but it seemed the company were eager to move on from the 'Attitude' Era.
