Daniel Bryan spent decades trying to became a top-level, main event superstar for WWE and by the middle of 2013, he had finally hit the stride that would take him there.

Aside from brilliant technical wrestling, Bryan didn't have a ton to offer in terms of breakout star potential, supposedly according to Vince McMahon and many WWE executives. Bryan was paired with Kane as part of a tag team and given a chance to do some comedy work with the Big Red Machine throughout the first half of 2013. It was during this time that Bryan began to grow out both his hair and his beard, two future trademarks of the Leader of the Yes! Movement.

Bryan has since stated that he only ever decided to grow out his beard in an effort to divert attention away from his head as he went through the "awkward phase" of growing out his hair.

By the time Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX, his two signature, uniquely identifiable character traits were his long and wild beard and his equally lengthy hairstyle that he continued to grow until retiring. Bryan hacked it all off and donated it to Wigs 4 Kids just prior to announcing his retirement in February 2016.
