Just a few weeks after being arrested and subsequently jailed for driving under the influence and evading police custody, Brian Christopher was found hanging in his cell in Hardeman County Jail on the morning of 29 July. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brain dead. After saying his farewells, father Jerry Lawler gave medical staff permission to shut off Christopher's life support system.

Christopher died that afternoon. He was just 46 years old.

In the wake of the incident, Lawler insisted something did not add up about the circumstances of his son's death, and vowed to fight for answers. As of December, an autopsy report had still yet to be released from the coroner's office.
