This next entry was a part of the greatest story of 2011—the infamous summer of Punk.

Having won the WWE Championship at the Money in the Bank PPV, Punk then “left” the company and kept the belt in his possession while doing so. This led to a tournament to decide a “new” WWE Champion, which Rey Mysterio won—only to then be inexplicably beaten by John Cena later on in the same night.

There were more surprises to come that evening tough, when Punk made his WWE “return”. Much like the Michaels/Razor situation, there were now two title belts in circulation. Consequently, a match was set up for SummerSlam for the undisputed WWE Championship.

Punk emerged victorious after an excellent match, though his celebrations were cut short when Alberto Del Rio cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to end the game of WWE title hot potato—if only for the time being.
