Except, he wasn’t really the first. That honour remains held by Chris Jericho, who at the 2001 Vengeance PPV aligned the WWE and WCW titles to become the true, inaugural Undisputed Champion.

Not only was this something of a surprise result, given that Jericho had just one world title to his name beforehand, but he also managed to defeat both the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the very same night on his way to winning the gold.

You don’t even need to be a wrestling fan to know how colossal an achievement that is.

Jericho has since shared an amusing tale of that first night as Undisputed Champion, which involved being forced to order a Domino’s for one before being locked out of his hotel room—not quite the life of a king that a champion might have excepted…

Lonely celebrations aside though, this remains an accomplishment that no one can ever take away from Y2J.
