22 Greatest WWE Champion vs. Champion Matches Ever

19. X-Pac vs. Tajiri - SummerSlam 2001

Yet another unification match, this time at SummerSlam 2001 between Cruiserweight Champion X-Pac and Light-Heavyweight Champion Tajiri.

Just to note, the Cruiserweight title was established in 1991, and the Light-Heavyweight title in '81. So naturally, you can guess which one survived the WWE’s careless unification process.

Yes, it was the younger Cruiserweight Championship that prevailed with the Light-Heavyweight belt sent to the scrapyard. Admittedly though, this actually seems like the right call to have made. After all, the first 16-and-a-half years of the Light-Heavyweight title’s life were spent outside of the WWE. Meanwhile, the Cruiserweight belt was in WCW, staging some of the most entertaining bouts in the entire pro wrestling business.

So in this case at least, it seems fair enough that the Cruiserweight Championship continued its lineage at the expense of the Light-Heavyweight title—assuming this call was even intentional, that is.
