Independent wrestler Grant Berkland, known most notably in CZW and Game Changer Wrestling as Danny Havoc, died on 31 May, less than two months after the death of his wife Brianne. He was 34.

Born 19 May 1986, Berkland grew up wrestling friends in his family's barn; a life in the industry was always in his sights. He made his in-ring debut in 2005, as part of Combat Zone Wrestling's student battle royal at Tournament of Death 4. His career started very much as it'd go on: he was set on fire during the contest.

Over the next 10 years, Berkland, under the alias Danny Havoc, emerged as a major figure within the hardcore scene. As well as claiming multiple championships in CZW, including two Tournament of Death trophies, Berkland spilled blood in Big Japan Wrestling, DDT Pro, wXw and IWA Mid-South.

Though he announced his retirement in 2017, in the great tradition of hardcore wrestlers, Berkland re-emerged to join GCW's tour of Japan this February. His final match for the company came against Run Rickey Run that month.
