After the brutal assault on his wife, Michaels fought Jericho in an Unsanctioned Street Fight at Unforgiven 2008. It was less of a match and more of a fight, as Michaels used the same tactics as Jericho had on him, beating on Jericho's eye until the referee stopped the match.

The Feud of the Year was continued at No Mercy 2008, this time in a ladder match for Jericho's recently won World Heavyweight title. 

Neither man held anything back in the match, brutalizing each other with ladder shots and laying in stiff shots. The match was so stiff that, at one point, a ladder shot from Michaels knocked out Jericho's tooth.

Instead of doing the stereotypical ladder match spots, they simply used the match and cranked up the intensity, making every move mean something and really working off of the heat for the feud.

In the end, Michaels and Jericho both ended up on top of the ladder with the world title belt unstrapped. They had a tug-of-war to the shock of the live crowd, who almost had a collective heart attack, until Jericho headbutted Shawn one last time and fell back with the title in his grasp, ending what many thought was the Match of the Year.
