25 Best Moments Of WWE Monday Night RAW (Year-By-Year)
11. 2007: Michaels Vs. Cena
Possibly one of the most overlooked WrestleMania main events is John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels from 'Mania 23. While not seen as a bad match, it tends to be ignored by fans in favor of other matches from both men's careers. For instance: their 60-minute non-title encounter on RAW weeks later.
In one of the more fascinating booking decisions at that time, Michaels and Cena had a rematch on free television that went nearly an hour, and by most people's standards, greatly exceeded the one they had on PPV. On a show known for matches with screwy finishes and short encounters in order to build up hype for paid programming, here was where we saw a complete inverse.
And to add to the insanity: Shawn Michaels beat Cena clean. In an era where Michaels was putting people over and when Cena was nigh indestructible, this was quite a treat for the anti-Cena crowd. Featuring great action and a great finish, this match was proof that, even in a stale era, anything could happen in WWE.
