The Carlito spear wasn’t even Bron’s best spot of the year, somehow.

In this TKO era, with its new audience and aspirations of being as big and as broad as possible, you’re far more likely to see an influencer than the Hurricane taking the surprise spot in the Royal Rumble match. To some fans, that’s sacrilege - but if the idea is grim in some way, the execution was absolutely incredible.

YouTuber Speed is a very compelling, classic love him or hate him type of figure. It seems like there’s a sweet man in there somewhere, but he’s hidden behind the face of an insufferably obnoxious attention-seeker. In short, without ever stepping foot into wrestling school, he’s an incredible heel.

Speed was vlogging the Rumble when, after Akira Tozawa was “injured”, Triple H forced him into the match. He walked around the ring like he was “him”, as Bron feigned being impressed. Bron then ran the ropes at his trademark breakneck pace before clattering into Speed.

Now, as mentioned, Speed had never stepped foot into a training facility. He did not know how to bump. This was rendered irrelevant in an awesomely violent split second.

Bron’s spear went wrong, He aimed his massive traps at full pelt into Speed’s poor ribcage. Speed was instantly floored, without even being aware of it. A human tackle dummy.

WWE is big on its “moments”, many of which look the same. Hooded figures turning heel moments after the obligatory barricade spot, etc.

This viral sensation of a spot was very much worthy of the lofty designation.
