25 Greatest WWE WrestleMania Matches Ever

12. The Ultimate Warrior Vs. Macho King Randy Savage (WrestleMania VII)

Ordinarily the stories of the technicolor kayfabe era didn't come loaded with so many layers, but the Warrior/Savage 'career ending' match told two tales concurrently: one of vanquishing, and the other of redemption. Pretty deep for a toy company, but you figure they'd want to send Savage out as something of a conquering hero.

The late match tension gives way to a Warrior win, but alas, Savage is redeemed by the lovely Elizabeth, who saves him from Sensational Sherri's blinded wrath. The tearjerking moment just about undermines Warrior's victory, making it one of the prime examples of a loss elevating someone's stock instead of extinguishing it. By the fall of 1991, fans were demanding once-nefarious Savage's return, and were thrilled to get it.
