Yokozuna's first title reign came to a quick end at the hands of Hulk Hogan, but when he won the belt back from Hogan and drove the perennial champion out of WWE, the former sumo wrestler looked unstoppable. In order to find the next challenger, WWE did something unprecedented -- on July 4, 1993, they held a special event on the deck of the U.S.S. Intrepid, and whomever was able to bodyslam the WWE Champion would claim a shot at his title. After WWE Superstars and NFL players failed, Lex Luger -- who had previously been a heel -- came out of the sky in a helicopter and slammed the behemoth to the delight of many.

WWE attempted to make Luger into their newest pro-America babyface, and so they created the Lex Express -- a tour bus Luger used to travel around the country and meet with fans. Still, he didn't take off like Hogan did, and the company was reticent to put the title on him. When the main event of SummerSlam came along, Luger hit a flying forearm that knocked the champion to the floor. Unable to answer the referee's ten count, Yokozuna lost... but as he wasn't pinned or submitted, he retained his title.

That didn't stop the celebration, though -- red, white, and blue balloons fell from the ceiling and babyface wrestlers hoisted Luger up on their shoulders. Fans, meanwhile, scratched their heads, wondering why such a huge celebration accompanied such a hollow victory.
