25 Most Memorable Wrestling Promos Of All-Time

12. Joey Styles' Worked Shoot

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1MJBO6k3a0 The key to a successful "shoot" promo in today's day and age is to play up to what the average internet fan has been saying. A lot of the things said in these promos tend to go over the heads of casual fans, so the targets of these things are clear as day. As Joey Styles was being bullied by his commentating partner Jerry Lawler, he finally had enough. He slapped Lawler across the face and walked off. When he was asked to return, he did so with a live microphone and began to run down everything that was "wrong" about Vince McMahon and his company. From the company's mistreatment of Jim Ross to the differences between "pro wrestling" and "sports entertainment" to Vince's sense of humor, and just about everything in between, Styles ripped into everything he could fit into a few minutes worth of time. In the Attitude Era, there were shoots and "shoots" happening on a regular basis as the business began to cater towards the internet more and more. Vince Russo was very well known for wanting to blur the lines between "work" and "shoot" all the time, but once he disappeared from mainstream wrestling, those types of promos mostly went away. A few years before this, Paul Heyman would cut a similar "shoot" (more on that later) that would attack Vince McMahon and his way of handling business, but this one came out of nowhere.
