24. Old MSG Is Dearly Missed

Something hits different when watching old WWF/WWE shows at Madison Square Garden. The layout for this iconic venue changed sometime in the early 2010s, and it's never been the same since. That's why rewatching events like Royal Rumble 2008 will put a smile on the faces of those who remember the glory days of short entrances with the hard cam facing it.

That had become a staple of these New York shows, and it gave them such a unique, welcoming vibe. WrestleMania XX had a different look from most events of the time at MSG, but it still worked. The only other event from the venue during the RA era was Survivor Series 2002, but yes - seeing that layout again is like waking up on Christmas morning.

MSG and WWE changed things for the worse, in this writer's opinion, and the Garden has always lacked something since. Look, it might have been done for safety/security or a mix of other reasons that make sense, but turning MSG into just any other building should've been a crime.

You know it's special when the host arena itself elevates a show. Vintage Garden did that right up until the '08 Rumble. Ask yourselves this: Would John Cena's timeless comeback have looked so cool had it taken place with a standard entrance setup? Probably not.

Icons like The Undertaker have remarked that they get goosebumps whenever they're inside those hallowed halls. That's true even when they're not performing! It was such a thrill to see MSG look how it's supposed to look.
