...that WWE will lose interest in the entire concept quickly.

In August 2020, a sweaty Shane McMahon introduced his new underground fighting ring. Fight Club, this was not, and no-one's quite sure why Shane-O was cast as the ideal guy for the gig. Is this how he found the Mean Street Posse? Was there a bare knuckle fighting culture in Greenwich, Connecticut or something?

The general gist of Raw Underground is that it was gritty, edgy and completely unlike anything else fans would see on the flagship. Only it wasn't. In fact, other than the bareknuckle 'fight to a finish' element of the scraps shown, there wasn't much to separate it from the usual brawls fans could watch on your typical episode of wrestling telly.

Also, Shane gooning over some extras brought in to act as 'Underground Girls' got a tad awkward. This was typical of the McMahon family. They figured that interest was down, so they wanted to shake things up by mimicking a film franchise 21 years on from its release. Vince never did have his finger on the pulse of pop culture post-'Attitude', did he?

Shane's excitable yowls conjured up images of his annoying commentary on old video game release WWF Attitude ("Bam!"), and the whole deal was just never going to last. There was never any attempt to link this in with the core product either, so it felt like you were watching a different show for a few minutes before regularly scheduled programming resumed.

Swing and a miss creatively.
