25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2020
18. Ricochet Gets Squashed Flat
WWE never viewed Ricochet as someone who could climb above midcard level, and he's been pretty outspoken and resentful about that since leaving the company for AEW. Rico is likely also playing up to online trolls with some of his comments, but he has gone in hard on how he was treated during a 6-year stay with the market leader.
Super ShowDown 2020 might sum up his WWE career in a microcosm.
During the build, Ricochet was rightly portrayed as an underdog who'd have to take the fight to Brock Lesnar and use his speed if he stood any chance of winning. Come the card over in Saudi Arabia, the high-flyer was squashed in around 90 seconds like this was Brock lowering himself for a one off showing on 'C' show Main Event against a jobber.
The whole thing was fairly pointless. If Vince McMahon didn't see Ricochet as someone worthy of challenging Brock (which he blatantly didn't), then he shouldn't have booked it at all. Such 'spirited underdog' stories are only worthwhile if there's something for fans to chew on. Some probably hadn't even sat back down again by the time the bell was ringing for Lesnar's comprehensive win.
What a waste of time, not only for Rico but also for the show as a whole. Flying both guys out to Riyadh for something this meagre was puzzling. The fact it was followed up by an unwanted steel cage bout pitting Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin only added to the pain fans felt.
Not a landmark night for Ricochet then.
