25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2022
4. Brawl Out
If CM Punk letting rip at the All Out 2022 media scrum had a slightly comedic edge, what followed it saw that humor disappear entirely. AEW had been a breath of fresh air since its inception, and CM Punk joining the company felt like the start of Tony Khan's upstart company becoming legitimate competition for WWE on every level. This all got shot down in flames during a backstage brawl that has since gone down in wrestling folklore.
After Punk verbally assassinated AEW's "EVPs that couldn't manage a Target", all hell broke loose when those same EVPs came to confront Punk after he'd finished his infamous rant. Various NDAs mean that we are unlikely to ever find out the exact details of what went down, but public perception is that chairs and punches were thrown by CM Punk and The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega was bitten on the arm by AEW employee and Punk associate Ace Steel (allegedly after helping keep Punk's dog, Larry, away from the chaos).
Whatever the details of the fight, CM Punk, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and various other AEW employees were suspended by Tony Khan with immediate effect. This started a chain reaction of events that put so much of what AEW had built in jeopardy. Whatever your feelings on this incident, and whoever's side you take, Brawl Out was so damaging to AEW's reputation that it took years to "restore the feeling" that once again exists around the company today.
