25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2022
1. Vince McMahon Resigns
It was widely accepted by fans and wrestlers that Vince McMahon would run WWE until he was no longer a part of this mortal realm. Through his mix of extreme work ethic and impenetrable stubbornness, everyone with an interest in wrestling had come to terms with the fact that McMahon would be delivering his unique brand of creativity until he was in the grave. And then it happened.
In April 2022, the WWE board began to investigate the claims of former WWE employee Janel Grant. When digging into the case further, it appeared as though McMahon had spent $19.6 million between 2006 and 2022 in "hush money" to prevent sexual misconduct cases from being brought to light. As graphic details began to emerge about the Janel Grant lawsuit being brought against him, fan backlash and boardroom pressure mounted. Vince appeared on the June 22nd episode of SmackDown, unsuccessfully trying to sell "then, now, forever, together" as a slogan in an attempt to con his board into believing this situation was a storm in a teacup and that fans still had his back.
In July 2022, Vince McMahon was given no choice but to resign from WWE. Despite the grim reality of the situation at hand, it still shocked the wrestling and entertainment world to its core. Except Vince is a billionaire, and the world shows us every single day that people with that much money rarely have to suffer the consequences of their actions. Believing he'd been given bad advice to step away from WWE, McMahon returned in January of 2023 before later resigning for a second time.
