25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2022
2. The Men's Royal Rumble
The 2022 Royal Rumble will forever go down as one of the worst major PLEs in WWE history, littered with nonsensical booking that left fans disillusioned with what is traditionally one of the best nights on the wrestling calendar and the official start of the Road to WrestleMania. Nothing personified this like the men's Rumble match.
The essence of a good Royal Rumble is that there are a host of epic moments and storylines designed to build towards WrestleMania. Tag team partners turn on one another, legends return for a satisfying pop or spot; you've watched a million of these, you know the drill.
Only, the 2022 Royal Rumble featured none of this and had an ending that had fans confused and disheartened.
Brock Lesnar had lost his WWE Championship to Bobby Lashley earlier that night due to shenanigans from Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns. The second that Lesnar entered the Rumble match at #30, it was apparent that he was going to win and set up yet another bout between him and the Tribal Chief in the main event of WrestleMania 38. Throw in the earlier-mentioned Shane McMahon nonsense, Kofi Kingston blowing his usual elimination-defying gymnastics, and no legends returning, and Brock's victory was the vomit-flavoured icing on the poop-flavoured cake that was the men's 2022 Royal Rumble.
