25 'WWE Superstars' Matches That Were Actually Awesome
2. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho (May 21, 2009)
Yes, a match that would headline WrestleMania for the WWE Championship three years later initially originated on 'WWE Superstars'. How crazy is that? It's especially hard to believe when you consider the match featured Superstars of the caliber of CM Punk and Chris Jericho. This may not have been their first ever one-on-one encounter and it certainly wouldn't be their last, but they treated it with as much as importance as if it was taking place at WrestleMania. It's near-impossible for these two to deliver a bad match, so it was only logical for them to have another excellent outing on 'Superstars'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiFjhlArSlY A good portion of the match consisted of intelligent mat wrestling and the two getting a feel for each other. It wasn't until the final few minutes that the two started to break out their signature maneuvers in an attempt to put the other away to no avail. After several nearfalls, Punk reversed Y2J's Walls of Jericho for the victory. Punk celebrated his win, only to be on the receiving end of a Codebreaker from Jericho moments later. No one would have thought at the time that they'd go on to evolve their characters before meeting again on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
