25 'WWE Superstars' Matches That Were Actually Awesome

19. Christian vs. Tommy Dreamer (May 21, 2009)

Very few times has a championship been up for grabs on an episode of 'WWE Superstars' and this was one of them. Christian, who had returned to WWE only months prior, defeated Jack Swagger to win his first ECW Championship at April's Backlash pay-per-view. He was also successful in their title rematch the following month at Judgement Day. With Swagger out of the picture, this allowed Dreamer to get his rightful shot at the strap as he had promised that he would leave the company if he didn't win it before his contract expired in early June. Thus, then-ECW General Manager booked the match between Christian and Dreamer for the May 21 'Superstars'. The two hadn't gone one-on-one during Christian's latest stint with WWE, so the match felt fresh. Even though both were past the primes of their respective careers, they still had a very good match that proved they were still excellent workers for wrestlers of their age. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LqpWKf8lu4 Unfortunately, the match never reached a conclusive finish due to Swagger's interference halfway through, but Christian and Dreamer would go on to clash over the ECW title many more times that summer.
