3. Promos Sell Significance

It really doesn’t take much to clear the low bar WWE has set during these past several years, so when they do the most basic thing correctly, it’s actually worth giving them credit.

That example was the opening to Raw, when all seven tag teams participating in the tag team turmoil #1 contender’s match cut backstage promos about what it would mean to them to win and challenge for the Raw Tag Team Championship. The promos from New Day, Viking Raiders, Mace & T-Bar and the rest were nothing special, but they were short and effective at getting across that all seven teams wanted the gold, which was much better than what we normally get.

You have to believe someone finally got through to the decision-makers that 20-minute endless promos weren’t cutting it, and that doing two minutes of quick segments would work far better. Baby steps…
