3 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's NXT
3. Not Getting LeRae With It
Maybe it was the Dollar Store pixie wings, maybe it was the 3-minute run time, maybe it was the Jersey Shore-style promo package, but for whatever reason Candice LeRae vs Kacy Catanzaro match felt about as flat as the globe on AJ Styles' mantlepiece.
Don't get me wrong, for a quick squash designed purely to set up a promo it probably over-delivered - Catanzaro's such a unique worker in this division that pretty much every time she's in the ring it's worth watching - but for what should be such a personal feud there feels virtually zero reason to actually care. The problem being, that we've literally just done this exact story, but with actual stakes.
Tegan and Candice were best friends, they traveled the world together, supported each other, became each other's family. But now, Candice has changed, and she doesn't care about her friends because she wants the opportunities that have been denied her in the past.
Now read that paragraph back and swap the word 'Candice' for 'Dakota'. See the issue?
Tegan Nox is a sensational wrestler, and there's a lot more NXT can do with her than an endless chain of 'What Happened To You, Sis?!' feuds.
