3 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage (Feb 24)

2. “The Sight To See”

The above subheading is a neat nickname for one Action Andretti. Y'know what else would be a "sight to see"? Some actual character development for the guy beyond superficial, happy-to-be-here b*llocks that has been done one million times before. He's quickly becoming just another high-flying face on the AEW scene.

Nothing about Action particularly stands out, at least not right now.

All Elite's creative forces don't seem interested in giving viewers any ironclad reason to cheer for Andretti either. You're just supposed to because he's athletic, passionate, smiley and opposing the heel-ish JAS crew on TV every week. That's so paper thin, and doesn't count as character development.

This hit home during the usual Mark Henry-led pre-main event promo segment. Action tried his best with weak material, but his underdog-esque fire fell some way short of convincing because it's just so predictable and second-rate.

Motivations and multi-layered characters are important in modern pro wrestling. AEW needs to start realising that.
