3 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage (Nov 5)
2. Emotion Sells
This was shooting done right.
Eddie Kingston was a man possessed as he ripped CM Punk apart for seemingly dissing him when he was a young up-and-comer. The story has believability on its side, which helps, and there's an intensity to Kingston's work on the mic that carries an air of real danger - you never know what he might say next.
Who does that sound like? It sounds like Punk during his 'Pipebomb' run in WWE. Now he's in AEW, Punk is much more of a grizzled veteran who doesn't take any sh*t, and that worked for this nose-to-nose. He himself suggested that Full Gear (where the pair will meet) is too big time for Eddie. Punk's line about wrestling on Dark or Elevation instead was clever.
There's a borderline condescending tone to Punk's words too. He's touching a nerve with the hardcore AEW fans for being so needlessly cruel to Kingston, and that could be useful for a possible heel turn (imagine) somewhere down the road.
Watch this. Drink it in. Enjoy it.
