3 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Aug 4)
Ups...
3. They Came Through
Their in-ring showdown alongside Paul Heyman might've been skippable, but there was nothing lightweight about Jey Uso vs. Solo Sikoa in Friday's main event. They worked a predictably fun, hard-hitting sort of headliner that was better because it didn't try to do too much.
It was a simple bit of setup for SummerSlam with one express purpose: Make Jey look like a proper threat to Roman Reigns heading into the pay-per-view. Job done then. Wade Barrett also earns some praise for pointing out that Uso bashing his brother with a steel chair could be handy come Saturday night.
Taking Solo out of the equation clears the way for Jey, basically.
WWE know they'll always be able to stick combos like this inside the ring for 10-12 minutes and get results. Workers like Jey and Solo are just too good (and have too much chemistry) to fail. Even so, they need a pat on the back for rescuing a so-so situation earlier in the night.
