3 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE NXT UK (26 March)
1. The New Isla Dawn?
The Isla Dawn we’re seeing now is apparently far different to the Isla Dawn we’re used to seeing.
Except she’s going to wear mostly the same gear, wrestle the exact same way, and act in no way like the character she played in last week’s mysterious vignette. Grand!
‘The White Witch’ disposed of newcomer Aleah James this week, putting her away with the Call of the Quarters. As a side note, a half-nelson suplex as your finisher, especially for a supposedly spooky wrestler, is a naff choice. She locked up with James to start the match, something she shouldn't dare be doing with her new gimmick. Wouldn’t she want to get the job done as quick as possible so she can get back to her Ouija board?
Nothing here made sense. Yes, Isla Dawn needed a change of character if NXT UK wanted to do anything with her in the future, but this wasn’t the way to go. Her in-ring style only slightly changed as the match progressed in that she started being more aggressive when dishing out her strikes. Other than that, it was the exact Isla Dawn we’ve become accustomed to.
WWE just don’t get spooky characters. They rarely get a character, full stop.
