3 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE NXT UK (6 May)
1. One Final Beat
We’ll touch upon the actual match itself a bit later on, but the overall presentation of Kenny Williams and Amir Jordan’s main event was iffy. They were clearly trying abundantly hard to create an aura for a match that was never going to be able to live up to the hype.
Because of the mass success that was Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa’s NXT TakeOver: New Orleans classic, every NXT/NXT UK weapons-based brawl since has had a difficult task to follow. WWE are so desperate to attempt any sort of recreation of that match that it always harms whoever’s involved in the bout.
At one point, Amir declared that what he was about to do is exactly what happens to scumbags, before softly bashing Kenny’s head off an opened steel chair a few times. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to trap Williams’ head inside the chair and then kick it off a la Tegan Nox at WCPW Stacked 2016? Of course it would. It’s WWE, though, so we can’t have anything nice in a no disqualifications bout.
What should have been a stellar bout between Amir and Kenny was instead an underwhelming bout simply because of its overall presentation.
