3 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (June 25)

Downs...

6. Huh?

Sonya Deville Liv Morgan Carmella

Liv Morgan arguing that she should get Carmella's spot in MITB after beating her was fine. 'Mella screwing up her face and saying 'f*ck that' was similarly decent. Sonya Deville then making a match that had zero stakes for one party? Not so fine.

What happened to WWE's recent edict that all matches must have purpose?

Yes, Liv earned her own way into Money In The Bank by beating the heel here, but nobody stopped to explain why Carmella had been given an automatic slot in the first place. Sonya just...decided that she should get it, and that was that. Then, cue Morgan, cue whinging and cue another loss that makes 'Mella look like a loser.

WWE easily could've put Carmella spot up for grabs to give this match meaning, then booked a screwy finish that led to Adam Pearce giving Liv a second chance next week. Ideal? Maybe not, but better than one of the MITB participants coming across as a glorified jobber.
