3 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 22)

2. So Much For That Weapon

Drew McIntyre Sheamus

Next week, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus will collide in what WWE is calling a "high-stakes Irish Donnybrook Match". Basically, it'll be 'Anything Goes' with the added caveat that Drew's sword is banned from ringside for the bout. Sheamus' shillelagh though? That's apparently legal.

Broken in half, but legal.

Both these old mates will be tasked with beating the hell out of each other and selling each shillelagh shot as if they're been smashed with a sledgehammer. So, with that in mind, it was totally stupid to have McIntyre cut the weapon in two ahead of time and present it as weak.

Thank f*ck these dudes are so talented and you know they'll produce the goods in-ring, because WWE's booking for their number one contendership rivalry has been too bait-and-switch heavy. Then, worse, they run stunts like this one.
