29. Hogan Vs Andre... Seven Years Before 'The First Time Ever'
When Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant wrestled in 1987's famous WrestleMania 3 main event, it was sold as the 'first time ever' meeting of the two iconic wrestlers. Yet just seven years earlier, the WWF had promoted Hogan versus Andre in a high profile match at Shea stadium. The 1980 event was in front of 36,295 fans and had Andre defeating Hulk in just under eight minutes. Many modern day fans who aren't students of WWE's history are surprised to hear that the two men wrestled before Mania 3. In fact, they wrestled several times in the early 1980's, some of their efforts being good matches. WWE's logic was probably that it was more of a regional audience back in 1980. They had a global audience by 1987, so when they said that it was 'first time ever' most fans weren't to know. It is a "what the f***" that WWE had an audacity to pull such a tagline.
