31 Years Of WWE SummerSlam Mistakes

2. SummerSlam '16 - The TKO Finish

Having Brock Lesnar decisively beat Randy Orton by TKO wasn't the worst idea. It was an original finish, and allowed Randy Orton to lose with some degree of dignity (supposedly). But allowing 'the Beast' to pummel him to the point of turning the canvas crimson probably wasn't wise.

Such was the barbarity of Brock's beat-down that many fans in attendance - and at home - were left nonplussed by the finish. The intention was to create a talking point, but that talking point wasn't supposed to be whether Lesnar had went into business for himself.

Even the roster were duped, with Chris Jericho notably confronting Orton's assailant. Truth is, things went exactly as planned - but possibly just a little too far. WWE experienced an increase in attention, but none of it was positive, the majority instead focusing on the company's recklessness in sanctioning a performer to bludgeon his colleague's head open with an elbow. Memorable for sure, but truly idiotic.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
