31 Years Of WWE SummerSlam Mistakes

24. SummerSlam '94 - The Underfaker

SummerSlam 94 Mistake
WWE

WWE had two choices for their SummerSlam '94 main event: Bret Hart and brother Owen settling a blood feud in a five-star classic cage match, or The Undertaker making his return to vanquish a Butlins' imposter in a bout only Brian Lee could be proud of. I think we all know how they went.

Following his, er, 'death', at Royal Rumble '94, The Undertaker was reanimated, though you wouldn't know it from this stodgy affair. Back then, to emphasise his gimmick, 'Taker moved like a snail through treacle, so facing off against an exact mimic was not the perfect recipe for excitement. The match lasted just under nine minutes, but it could just as easily have been nine years.

Still, it was the stage of the 'Deadman's finest ever entrance, and gave the future Chainz the chance to advertise himself as a SummerSlam headliner for all his future dates, so not all bad.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
