One of the most baffling parts of Triple H's career was when he was awarded the World Title in September 2002. It was the first official reign anyone had as World Champion, but it didn't say much for the belt when the champion didn't even have to earn it. In that sense it was puzzling. WWE could have easily booked and done good ratings / buys off a tournament scenario. By merely awarding the belt, they were literally throwing money away. It would become a pattern in Triple H's post-2002 championship career, booking decisions that made little to no sense.
