Now clearly there’s a case to be made that Batista could draw comparisons to Goldberg, Ultimate Warrior and even that current star Ryback takes a lot from Big Dave himself. But for this list, it’s all about the Warrior.

Much like Ultimate Warrior, Batista (still just about classified as an active performer) is a physical specimen with a limited moveset, a clunky, hard-hitting style, intense promos, who got into the business later than most, and who had most of his time at the top of the card overshadowed by A.N. Other. In Warrior’s case he had the shadow of Hulkamania looming over him, whereas Batista has regularly had to see John Cena waving his hand in front of his face.

Both Warrior and Batista are genuine main event stars in their own right, and as well as sharing certain limitations they also both got over huge with fans during their respective runs.

Big Dave has talked about how he does seem himself returning for a farewell run at some point, and we can only hope it was better than Warrior’s in-ring WWF swansong in 1996.
