35 Years Of WWE WrestleMania Mistakes

1. WrestleMania 35 - It's An Ending, That's Enough

WWE

At the close of WrestleMania 35, the assembled throng in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium had their collective heads in their hands. Not because of the outcome of the main event - that went exactly as everybody hoped - but because they were all two winks away from forty.

WWE's gluttony knows no bounds, and each year WrestleMania's coveted 'moments' are increasingly undermined by the show's excessive bloat. The emotional high-point of Kofi Kingston besting Daniel Bryan was fortunate to land in the middle of the show. Becky Lynch ending arm raised following the first ever women's 'Mania event wasn't so lucky. By that point, the extravaganza had ran for a colossal seven hours - more than most trans-Atlantic flights. People definitely cared about the match, but they didn't have the energy to show it.

It didn't help that the finish was entirely botched, with the referee counting the decisive pin despite Ronda Rousey getting her shoulders up. The confusion only added to the crowd's muted reaction, and what should have been an astonishing release of adulation was instead a mass sigh of relief.

Splitting the show across two days should ensure the crowd doesn't get so worn out this year, eh? Oh.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
